Suite à la construction de la télécabine de Planpraz, en 2008, laquelle a amené un certain confort et une rapidité d’accès ski area, the old tower had been demolished before the construction of the road does.
These towers have certainly done much attention and fueled many conversations, but the Compagnie du Mont Blanc (CMB) and the town of Chamonix have focused on treatment and the demolition of the concrete monuments .
After many bids and techniques proposed for the atypical configuration of the terrain, the CMB has opted for the principle of "nibbling" to the demolition of the P5 (the first tower located upstream of the arrival of the Track Nants).
Une démolition par “grignotage”
Cette opération consiste à monter une plate-forme autour du pylône sur laquelle sera installé un brise roche hydraulique qui grignotera peu à peu l’édifice en réduisant les blocs en gravats. Ensuite, une fosse sera creusée autour du pylône pour les enterrer, les pièces métalliques ayant été débarrassées au préalable. Des analyses ont été conduites sur la composition des matériaux, lesquelles ont conclu à une absence de nocivité pour l’environnement.
Les opérations de démolition du P5 commencent ces jours-ci pour se terminer (si la météo le permitting) by the end of 2010. Regarding the other towers, their destruction will follow in spring and autumn 2011, the work can not be achieved nor the winter or the summer to do no harm to hikers. By performing this operation, the CMB is to demonstrate its commitment to the environment and is part of a long-term management of its facilities.
